The Africaba is the result of an original collaboration between Christian Louboutin, his longtime friend Valérie Schlumberger, and the women of La Maison Rose. A beautiful pink house in Dakar, La Maison Rose is much more than a house; it is a place of hope and a place of safety for vulnerable and marginalised women of Senegal and their children.
At La Maison Rose, women learn the traditional Senegalese skill of embroidery, ensuring them a trade – and a brighter, happier future. Demonstrating inventiveness combined with instinctive artistic flair, the hand-embroidered work of the women of La Maison Rose is fused with the skill of the house of Christian Louboutin to create the Africaba.
Inspired by the spirit of the partnership, Christian Louboutin is delighted to contribute ten percent of proceeds to benefit La Maison Rose’s programs through the Company of Senegal and West Africa (CSAO). Founded by Valérie Schlumberger in 1995, CSAO disseminates the work of West African artisans and artists, communicating their talent in an equitable and sustainable way.
A beautifully seductive blend of two houses which share a passion for craftsmanship and a sense of joy in creation, the Africaba is a unique statement of bold West African style. Vibrant colour clashes happily alongside bold graphic prints in this large paneled tote bag, each unique in construction due to their handmade origins. Hand and shoulder straps are embellished by traditional, colourful beading, as well as Christian Louboutin signature spiked detailing.
Elsewhere, familiar design features are incorporated through the additional of a multi-bead embroidered crest and embroidered logo panel.
