Hand-sewn sequins glint as they catch the light, whilst rich embroidered prints draw the eye in and sumptuous brocades slowly swing with a luxurious weight : welcome to the world of Sabyasach’s lavish Fall-Winter 2019 show.
Marking the 20th year of his brand, designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee returned to his first collection, ‘Kashgaar Bazaar’ for inspiration, turning out whimsically regal pieces. Imagined for global nomads and performing artists, the collection found its match in the striking accessories and shoes created for them by Christian Louboutin, marking the fourth collaboration between the Indian brand and the Parisian powerhouse.
Embroidered in multicolour florals and sequins, the Gena pump set a lavish tone with the Sakouette women’s loafer following suit. True to the collection’s bohemian aesthetic, bold and intricate prints featured on styles such as the Espadrille and Jessica knee-high boots, with tones of dusty rose, deep brown and olive green appearing on the quintessential Loubiqueen in both leather and satin versions. Over on men’s, the Crestflat and Dandelion loafers in the softest nappa leathers followed suit with rich embroideries to match the collection’s artisanal vegetable dyed tints making a great pairing for Indian formal menswear attire.
The Marie Jane bucket bag was reinterpreted exclusively for India, this time in eight romantic hues and embellished with an Indian-style latkan tassel. Majestic velvet versions bearing the Maison’s signature logo were embroidered by Sabyasach, combining the two fashion mavericks’ creative energies. Also shown in a nappa leather studded with statement diamond spikes, fringe styles played out in red-brown hues shades, in perfect harmony with the traditional Indian bridal palette.
In perfect synergy, East met West to create a magical moment of visually stimulating artistry. One thing is sure, this is the kind of collection that takes you a million miles away without ever once having left your seat.
